Today in Evil

The concept of divine justice took another blow today as former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet died surrounded by family, instead of being hung upside-down by his own intestines while having his flesh pecked by birds.

The War on Christmas continues apace. I know, it seems like I just took down my War on Christmas decorations from last year. This time the target is airports.

All 15 Christmas trees inside the terminal at Sea-Tac have been removed in response to a complaint by a rabbi.

A local rabbi wanted to install an 8-foot menorah and have a public lighting ceremony. He threatened to sue if the menorah wasn’t put up, and gave a two-day deadline to remove the trees.

People complain about atheists, but we’re really falling behind in the War. Our Jewish comrades are way ahead. But what can I say — I think a huge menorah would be lovely. And then you could have a Festivus pole, and a Kwanzaa kinara, and a big FSM decoration. I would be so down with that! And then the atheists could have a big empty space.

In other news, imagine how distressed I was to find that I am apparently not evil at all.

How evil are you?
Yes, well, that’s all very nice, but how am I to survive in a competitive world if I have no desire to crush the other guy?

This is why I decided not to go for Survivor. That and the spider-eating challenge.

  1. Do you have a Christmas tree Daniel? Do you give presents and the like? Or do you sit and fume because no shops are open on December 25? I’m just asking, nothing nasty intended here.
How did the concert go? WASO was very good. There’s another one on next week right?

  2. It seems I am quite eviil. Not sure why, but I do need to point out that Angelic is the name of one of the demons in the hellraiser series.

  7. Yes, but when you identify so closely with Luxembourg, we can overlook a little thing like cannibalism.

  8. ash: I’d like to put up a Festivus pole this year, but the kids will probably complain. But I do the holiday thing. It’s fun.

The Collegium Musicum concerts were great. Saturday was better than Friday. I love performing. You’re right next to the orchestra, so you can hear everything. And if you want to sing along, you can! It’s rather expected. And this week is Messiah with Collegium Symphonic.

I think the music is my favourite part of the holiday season. I actually think I might be having more fun at Christmas now than when I was a kid.

  9. Ooops
    I’m EVIL
    But I already knew that.
    Funny, coz I’m such a nice person…….

  10. Wanna feel weird, though? Go into a Christmasly festooned Fred Meyer the day before Hanakah, and ask if you can buy a menorah. In Portland, it’s easier to find a statue of Buddha than a menorah. Oh sure, the Hallmark store has super-kitchy ones, but those don’t count. And it’s not that the Fred Meyer people are overtly hostile – no one here could be – they just obviously think it’s a weird question, and never thought about it before. Then they do have menorahs, and the 5th person you ask knows where they are, but they don’t have candles, so you might as well use the thing as a doorstop.

Course, some might say it makes as mush sense as a doorstop as anything else, but the Grandma got the Grandson Hanakah presents, and it seems dirty to get the presents without any of the associated cultural trappings and baggage.

Anyway, I feel a bit of sympathy for the Rabbi.
