Good Reason

It's okay to be wrong. It's not okay to stay wrong.

2006 elections

When Clinton won in 1992, I danced on the couch. The results aren’t all in yet, but at this stage it’s looking like the Democrats will take over the House and perhaps the Senate, if Virginia and Montana hold in there through the recounts and legal action.

Honestly, I won’t be happy anyway. Even if the Dems take both houses of Congress, I’d still want to see Dick Cheney perp-walked to the International Criminal Court in the Hague. And immediate impeachment proceedings. And why is it such a squeaker anyway? The most corrupt and incompetant leadership in 230 years, and Republicans manage to hang on to even one seat?

But these things take time. So for now I’ll be happy with just the House. And I’m getting my dancing shoes on.

  1. I am still confused how any American can agree with the conservatives at this point. The country is going down in flames and their main concern is whether gays should be allowed to marry or not. People are getting shot at in a war that shouldn’t be our problem and they only care that marriage should be defined as between man and woman? Priorities people!

I have been living in England the past three months. It is disturbing how people react when they hear that I am American. I never got this kind of treatment in the UK before. I practically have to wear a shirt that says “Hello, I am a Blue State/Left-Wing/Democrat/Liberal. Please don’t hate me because I am American” before I am no longer seen as the enemy.

The votes are in in VA and it is clear who should have the seat, but the Republicans just don’t want to let it go.

I don’t think I can pull out my dancing shoes until I know that Virginia and Montana belongs to the Dems, but I have brushed them off in the hopes that I will be putting them on soon.

  2. Before anyone puts on dancing shoes take a look at the exit polls and see how america responded to social issues. This country has gone far right. That being said I’m glad we made the gains we did and restored some checks to the system. I think this might be the first time that the balance of power may be decided by Montana.

  3. I’m just happy that Rumsfeld is on the way out. I think he should be given a retirement home in Baghdad with a sign with his name on the door

  4. Can we pass out maps to his house too?

  5. Yep Rumsfeld is out. Is this good or bad for you lot?

  6. Hey, Jeff, have you got a link for those exit polls?

So far, I’ve heard both sides claim victory on the ‘values’. At least South Dakota put down that abortion ban, and Arizona’s gay marriage ban failed. But there’s a lot of ground to recover.

On Rumsfeld — I like that he’s out, but did he quit so he wouldn’t have to show any accountability?

  7. New link over at Soma Vacation. I guess it is a bit of a mixed bag but for this looney leftie its far to right.
