Many thanks to the students who nominated me for last year’s Excellence in Teaching Award. I was awarded a High Commendation for Teaching Excellence. The photo you see here is me with Vice Chancellor Alan Robson, getting the award at the ceremony last night.
It’s very nice to be recognised. I’m usually happy if students don’t fall asleep during lectures, so this award is a very special bonus.

Congratulations Daniel! You’re certainly the most inspiring lecturer that I’ve ever had, and it’s a big part of what got me to where I am now – specifically doing honours at the University of Melbourne!

Wow Daniel. Thats fantastic. My dad had to wait till the end of his career to get one of those. Congrats!

Huzzah! Well earned for sure. Not only for the excellence in teaching stuff, but for the phenomenal taste in pre- and post-lecture music choices.

Cool. I’ve heard that there’s a paperwork burden associated with the awards process, taking away time from (presumably more interesting) research. Is this so?

You do have to put together a rather detailed teaching portfolio, write a statement about your teaching philosophy, get letters of recommendation from heads of school and so forth. But I suppose it’s only fair that I have to do something, since students had to do a bit of paperwork to nominate me.

Hey congratulations, Dan! That’s fantastic news and from you’ve posted here I’m sure it’s really well deserved.
