Good Reason

It's okay to be wrong. It's not okay to stay wrong.

Google found me

Behold the Google napkin! It may look like any other paper napkin, but this one has been imprinted with the Google logo. It can be used to find the exact location of that dollop of mustard on your face. It can also be used for the healing of the sick. Just wipe it over the face of a consumptive child and be amazed at the results.

There were lots of Google Recruiters at the ACL/COLING conference. They even threw a get-together shindig, hence the napkins. The motto of Google Recruiters: We’ll find you. They probably had the room indexed in seconds.

I even got to have a chat with one of the original developers of Google Maps. “I like the way you can scroll around on the maps,” I said.

“Yeah, we worked that one out in an afternoon,” he said. “Once we found the tools for multiple asynchronous queries, we had it.”

Sounds like a fun place to work. They’re grabbing quite the assortment of talent lately.

Irony note: There was a ‘best paper’ award at the conference, with a cash prize sponsored by Microsoft. The winner was an intern at Google.
